I spent one year in Barcelona in Spain and lived in a tiny village with a Spanish family. I was studying language there before my exams to the University. I want to tell about my intercultural experience there. I decided to try local food and came to the restaurant. When I entered a restaurant I was greeted by woman, who gave a greeting in Spanish. When the waitress gave me a menu I told her that I was very hungry, but didn't know what to order due to the fact it was my first time in Spain. Suddenly the old man who was sitting next to my table came and told that he would help me. He sat down at my table and asked me to be my guide in Spanish cuisine. The man was about 40 years old, he was well-dressed and looked good. I was shocked, I thought that I didn't understand something, because my Spanish wasn't good. But later he explained me that it is natural for Spanish to communicate with strangers. In Russia it is unusual to talk with a stranger like with your friend. The man (his name was Pablo) said that he was surprised that I came from Russia, told me what he knew about Russia. I told about life in Russia and asked questions about life in Spain. Time flew by quickly, we had a great dinner. We talked like old friends, said goodbye and did not even leave telephone number to each other. It was amazing intercultural experience.
