Lady Macbeth - decisive, villain, but later tormented by her deeds, rushing around, losing her mind, dying. Katerina is calm, all merged with everyday life, love comes to her from boredom, cruel to her husband, father-in-law, her and another's child, knows how to achieve her. The Shakespearean Lady Macbeth is the embodiment of extreme egoism, she knows no doubt or hesitation, she is a concentrated expression of evil. She does not cause either sympathy or compassion. More complicated is the image of Lady Macbeth N.S. Leskov. She is both a ruthless killer and a suffering victim, who has managed to love so much and is so vilely betrayed and deceived. The story of Katerina is filled with tragedy. Feeling does not justify Katerina, and Leskov emphasizes this.
