The speed allowed in residential areas is 20 km\h. Outside built-up areas the speed limit is 90 km/h The speed limit is 110 km/h on motorways. Drivers must give way to pedestrians at pedestrian crossings. While driving using hand-held cell phones is not allowed. The driving age is minimum 18 years. Traffic safety in Belarus is controlled by the traffic police called GAI(DAI in Belarussian)
