The Roman Empire fell more than 1500 years ago, but its investigations can still be seen today - fountains, public baths, toilets and aqueducts. Aqueduct (bridges for fresh water) were so well built that some are still in use to this day. Also sewers (by them dirty water were taken out of the city) can be found under Rome now. Sewers, aqueducts, Pantheon, the Colloseum, the Roman Forum were built using concrete. The Romans first began building with this wonderful building material over 2100 years ago. Early Roman newspapers Acta Durina (daily acts) were written on metal or stone and the put in public areas like Roman Forum. Romans also invented the system of feeding the poor and giving them medical help. Government controlled prices for some food products. By 200 AD a system or road was built and many of these roads are still in use today. Socks, shoes, many ball and board games, cosmetics, umbrellas, candles, glass, showers, street lightning were introduced by Romans. Many ancient investigations were forgotten for hundreds of years after the fall of the empire. The most famous example is concrete which disappeared for centuries and was reproduced only in early 1800s.
