Тhere're several traditions associated with greetings in Russia. For example, if a man greets another man, he usually shakes hands with him. Though this tradition isn't appropriate for women. In order to have a small talk - first you should say "Hello!" and then ask a formal question "How are you?". On a visit to household you should put off your shoes at the entry. The host has to offer slippers to his guests. You can bring presents with you, for example something delicious "for a tea".
